The quality of CBD oil available in the market varies greatly depending on the methods used to extract it from the cannabis plant matter. CBD extracts are preferred over raw plants as weed is not only unpleasant but also less effective than CBD extract, which is why the CBD industry focuses on producing high-quality CBD extract containing the least quantity of any toxins or other cannabinoids and phytochemicals. Here the three most common CBD extraction methods.
This method uses different solvents, such as ethane, butane, isopropyl, or propane. Solvent extraction is the least expensive method and exceptionally fast. The plant waxes are dissolved in these solvents, and then the stripped-off cannabinoids are obtained by evaporating the unwanted chemicals. If the process is not carried out properly, it may have toxic residues that are extremely harmful. Moreover, these solvents are flammable and require expert technicians.
Olive Oil Extraction Method
Olive oil extraction is the oldest and the easiest way to extract CBD oil. Olive oil is a natural solvent that can be used to produce CBD oil with a shorter shelf life. The cannabis buds and flowers are heated to a specific temperature for decarboxylation and then added to the olive oil and heated again. The olive oil is then evaporated to obtain CBD oil. However, since not all the olive oil gets evaporated, the CBD oil produced is not very concentrated.
CO2 Extraction Method
The supercritical CO2 extraction method is the most sophisticated and expensive way to extract CBD oil. In this process, supercritical co2 is passed through the plant matter, which absorbs the cannabis plant extract. It is collected in the next chamber. Carbon dioxide is passed through this mixture to separate the cannabinoids from the unwanted chemicals. This method is precise and produces high-quality CBD oil, but it is expensive and requires specific equipment and highly experienced technicians.
These three methods are the most popular and widely used by the different CBD oil vendors. If carried out properly, these extraction methods produce good quality CBD oil that is safe for regular use.
